Production of neutron-rich heavy residues and the freeze-out temperature in the fragmentation of relativistic U projectiles determined by the isospin thermometer
نویسندگان
چکیده
Isotope yields of heavy residues produced in collisions of U with lead at 1⋅A GeV show indications for a simultaneous break-up process. From the average N-over-Z ratio of the final residues up to Z = 70, the average limiting temperature of the break-up configuration at freeze out was determined to T -thermometer method. Consequences for the understanding of other phenomena in highly excited nuclear systems are discussed.

The Isospin Thermometer - A New Method to Determine
The neutron excess of heavy fragmentation products is analysed in order to extract the excitation energy at the beginning of the evaporation stage of the reaction. The result gives indications for a break-up stage also in reactions in which heavy fragments are formed. The freeze-out temperature, determined with this approach, agrees with the value of about 5 MeV found in light fragment producti...
متن کاملFragmentation of very neutron - rich projectiles around 132 Sn
We propose an experiment to isotopically identify and determine the production cross sections of residual nuclei in the fragmentation of very neutron-rich nuclei around Sn produced in the fission of relativistic U primary projectiles. These measurements will provide valuable information about a possible two-step reaction scheme (fission-fragmentation) to optimise the production of extremely neu...
متن کاملIsotopic effects in multifragmentation and the nuclear equation of state
Isotopic effects in spectator fragmentations following heavy-ion collisions at relativistic energies are investigated using data from recent exclusive experiments with SIS beams at GSI. Reactions of C on Sn at incident energies 300 and 600 MeV per nucleon were studied with the INDRA multidetector while the fragmentation of stable Sn and radioactive Sn and La projectiles was studied with the ALA...
متن کاملIsospin Observables in Multifragmentation of Relativistic Projectiles
Multifragmentation is a universal phenomenon occurring when a large amount of energy is deposited in a nucleus. It was observed in high energy nuclear reactions induced by hadrons and heavy ions. It is believed to be a manifestation of the nuclear liquid-gas phase transition which is also expected to occur in crusts of neutron stars and in supernova explosions. This reaction offers a unique pos...
متن کاملProduction of medium-mass neutron-rich nuclei from fragmentation of Sn
Medium-mass neutron-rich nuclei are important for nuclear structure investigations (e.g. shell evolution with neutron excess) and nuclear astrophysics (e.g. r-process in nucleosynthesis). However, these investigations are limited because of the difficulties in producing medium-mass nuclei with a large neutron excess. The traditional way for producing neutron rich nuclei was fission of actinides...
